Recipient Org: Description The Wilderness Foundation UK harnesses the power of the wilderness to transform vulnerable lives and empowers people to conserve nature. Based in rural Essex we help young people reconnect to society and themselves through outdoor adventure and mentoring. Our programme facilitation highlights the positive impact of nature on personal and social well being. Developing stewardship for nature and wild places is imbued through teaching of sustainability and environmental education alongside volunteering opportunities. Our track record of working with vulnerable young people includes programmes that develop future sustainability leaders, build resilience for those with challenging lives and mental health issues, introduce rural employment to urban youth, and bring curriculum-based sciences to life in the outdoors, all through our nature-based programmes and experienced outdoor facilitators and counsellors. Our mission is to preserve wild places and change lives through outreach programmes that educate, inspire and reconnect young people facing a number of challenges in their lives. The content of these programmes aims to equip and enable young people to acquire skills from within themselves to navigate their futures safely and successfully. We are working to keep people healthy and our planet wild!
