Recipient Org: Description The Livewire Trust (Livewire) is a community youth theatre offering young people (aged 7-25) a regular programme of free workshops where they learn and develop theatrical skills which are transferable and relevant. We believe that the arts should be available to everyone regardless of economic status or ability. We strive to bring young people to Livewire who have had little or no contact with the arts before. Through using theatrical projects we aim to improve confidence in our members, improve self esteem, skills in all areas, especially skills that promote responsibility, aspirations, team work and self motivation. We run weekly workshops through term time, Mondays and Tuesdays are our Primary School group (current membership 80). Wednesdays is our Secondary School Yr 7 and above group (current membership 45), Thursdays is for our Yr9 and above group (current membership 30) and also on Mondays we run our Mindfulness sessions which are available to all members to attend. Livewire participants also take part in end of term performances, holiday workshops (week long theatre challenge with capacity for 70 young people doing Drama, Dance and Music) and a summer tour of local primary schools, where the young people deliver issue-based theatre workshops to primary school children. All of Livewire’s workshops are based around improvisation and the devising of new and original pieces of theatre. The Livewire ‘Theatre Challenge’, in particular, is a unique and intense programme where the young people are involved in all aspects of putting on a piece of theatre in a theatre for the public. This process allows the young people to: - Explore different points of view around a key issue and turn them into a performance that is relevant and thought provoking. - Be involved in a process, which would not normally be accessible to them. - Be creative in their own way and on their own terms and for their enjoyment. - Make new friends and establish positive relationships. - Gain confidence in their own ability and learn to trust others. - Improve upon or learn completely new skills. We devise theatre that is issue based, the young people contribute to each others learning and we aim to make real change in our community by developing empathy for one another. Devising theatre allows us to: -Explore different points of view around a key issue, -Develop discriminatory skills that will allow them to come to informed decisions about their behaviour, Engage in a constructive dialogue about personal responsibility within a practical context. Our overall objectives are set by our trustees and our 'Young Voices' group which is a group of existing members who feed back regularly on workshops and content. - Create and sustain interactive educational theatre using young people from Essex in a tour of Harlow primary schools at least once every year. - Bring interactive and other forms of theatre to people who may have had little or no contact with the arts before. - Provide a safe working environment for young people to develop their theatrical, personal and social skills. - Challenge intolerance and prejudice in all its forms. - To always produce the highest quality of work possible, therefore promoting young people as talented, dedicated and engaging members of our community -Use the frequent contact with young people as a basis for regular youth work. -Use interactive theatre as a forum for discussion. -As a charitable organisation, raise its own funds in order to provide a free, high quality service to all young people. -Develop and sustain weekly music and dance workshops. - To maintain and care for all young peoples mental wellbeing
