Recipient Org: Description At Age UK Essex we aim to promote the wellbeing of all older people in Essex and be there to support people to live fulfilling and enjoyable lives. We believe in a society in which people in later life from all communities have equal access to services, where they are free from discrimination and their human rights are promoted and protected. Age UK Essex has achieved the Age UK Charity National Quality Standard (CQS). The CQS is externally assessed by quality assessment experts SGS. Our services are listed below and operate at a countywide level Countywide Befriending Service Home/Telephone (free service) Our Countywide Befriending Service offers companionship through a weekly home visit or phone call. It’s the perfect opportunity for clients to relax in their own home and have a catch up over a cup of tea with one of our screened and trained volunteer befrienders. The aim of the service is to help alleviate the debilitating effects of loneliness and/or social isolation. With people now living longer, this is growing problem with demand increasing across all parts of Essex, Thurrock and Southend. Home Help Service The service has been designed to help older people to live independently and remain in their own homes for longer. and aims to provide practical and emotional support as listed below. Dusting and polishing furniture Cleaning baths, sinks and toilets Washing floors Laundry Changing beds Emptying rubbish bins. Shopping Collecting weekly shopping from the local supermarket Accompanied shopping Collecting prescriptions. Food Preparation Service Outdoor Activity Support Sitting and Companionship Service Toenail Cutting Service The service gives people the chance to have their toenails trimmed by fully trained staff in a friendly and welcoming environment. We hold regular toenail cutting clinics at over 100 easily-accessible venues throughout Essex and we also offer home visits if they find it hard to get out and about. All of our toenail trimmers are trained and assessed by the NHS podiatry service and our Home Visiting service is CQC registered. The service operates every six to eight weeks and helps clients to benefit from the following To remain mobile To avoid becoming isolated and housebound To reduce the likelihood of having a fall To avoid the general discomfort which accompanies long toenails. To help with remaining independant for as long as possible and enhance quality of life Information & Advice Service The Age UK Essex Information and Advice service is a free, impartial and confidential advice service for anyone aged 50 or over, their friends, family, professionals and carers. The service makes asking for help easy. Our team of professional advisors are only a phone call away and are fully trained to offer help and advice on a huge range of issues that affect older people. Our advisors can help people confidently navigate some of the most difficult questions and situations that arise in later life and are experts in giving the support needed. Some of the most common enquires are listed below; Benefits entitlement Housing issues Social care Legal - advisors can provide information about making a will, dealing with an estate or make financial and Welfare decisions Bereavement support Voice Network It's really important that older people in Essex know where to go if they need help and who they can turn to for support. Our Voice Network share information on local services and give older people a voice within their community. Visiting clubs and groups across the county, the Voice Network's team of specially trained volunteers go out and about to give talks about the services and facilities available for older people in their local area. They also help older people get their opinions heard by gathering their views and feeding them back to the local authority and key decision makers. The Voice Network operates across Essex including Southend and Thurrock and also visits organisations such as housing associations, carers groups, GP surgeries, patient groups and other charities. Advocacy Service (In House) Our Advocacy Service operates on a small scale and will support any clients using any our services. The service is managed by our Head of Service for Information & Advice who is also a fully qualified Advocate, providing confidential advice and supporting the most vulnerable members of our society to access information and services. Trading Our Trading subsidiary contributes vital unrestricted income to help fund our services to older people in Essex. It's team of expert arrangers help customers to access products and services, Home Insurance, Motor Insurance, Motor Breakdown, Funeral Plans and Personal Alarms.
