Recipient Org: Description | Substance Matters supports individuals facing the issues related to homelessness, problematic alcohol or drug use. Many clients are longterm unemployed, with a history of criminal convictions, they therefore face exclusion and are on the margins of mainstream society. We offer both practically and emotionally support to meet these multiple needs. Currently we have 120 registered clients and see between 15 – 60 daily. Our core services operate around our drop-in sessions, which provides: refreshments, breakfast, cooked lunch, laundry and shower facilities, clothes bank and food parcels. Advice is provided concerning issues like housing, debt and welfare. Key workers also help address the social and emotional issues of homelessness and substance misuse including isolation and lack of self-worth, the drop-in also provides individuals with the rare opportunity to socialise and make friends. We support this with confidence building, volunteer opportunities and job search workshops to assist suitable clients in becoming self-sufficient. |
