Recipient Org: Description The Council represents the interests of the whole community tasked with improving the quality of life and the environment within the Parish. It is a corporate elected body within the first tier of Local Government. It engages with the decision makers in the borough and county council on matters concerning planning, highways, transport and traffic, community safety, housing, street lighting, litter, war memorials and rights of way. The council must appoint a chairman, clerk, responsible finance officer, councillors, a competent independent auditor and hold a minimum of 4 meetings a year, one of which must be the AGM. Residents are invited to meetings to report and discuss local issues and the council strive to develop the community by working with groups to solve problems. The Council has the power to raise money through taxation(the precept), lend money, act as trustees and a range of powers to spend public money ensuring that they are providing value for money for their communities. Our governing documents are Standing Orders, Code of Conduct for Councillors, Finance Regulations and Grant Awarding Policy. The ownership of the Colin Teall Wood was transferred to the Parish Council in 1995. The wood must be maintained as a conservation area for the general benefit of the inhabitants of the parish of Nether Whitacre.
