Recipient Org: Description | We hold a collection of some 40,000 photographs of Water Orton and the surrounding communities of Coleshill, Castle Vale and Castle Bromwich and other locations in Warwickshire. This collection has been gifted and bequeathed over many years and contains a number of exceptional rare early photographs on glass plates, amongst which is believed to be the oldest know photograph of Shakespeare’s birthplace in Stratford. Water Orton Heritage Centre is a voluntary group that has been formed to catalogue and make arrangements through bid writing and sourcing voluntary help identify and preserve those photographic records that are of importance to the built and natural heritage of the communities they record. War Memorial. Water Orton does not have a public space war memorial. To commemorate the centenary of the WWI Armistice in November 2018 we intend to erect and consecrate a new memorial.
