Recipient Org: Description Aston Rangers are a group made up of community minded parents from Aston and surrounding areas who want to promote a sense of unity, belonging, optimism and pride amongst a deprived local community that is made up of many nationalities and ethnicities. By using sport in all its shapes and sizes we hope to encourage local people to come together, become more physically active and to promote the possibilities for more people to become involved in a shared experience with others they may not ordinarily meet. These activities include volunteering to help out with the running of the club, coaching, officiating and committee work at the club. We encourage all age groups - male and female - to take part, not only playing sports, but to come along to weekly training and coaching sessions to keep fit and promote a healthy lifestyle and to be part of a well-run community club. The aims of the club have become more focussed recently, particularly on fostering informal education to young people on a wide variety of issues including alcohol and drug misuse, teenage pregnancies, absenteeism, gang culture and very recently refugee and asylum seeker outreach work. The club works in partnership with many local agencies.
