Recipient Org: Description Aire Wharfe & Craven Counselling (AWCC) is a small, community-based, quality assured service providing adults with mental-ill health quick access to subsidised counselling. We believe everyone deserves to be supported to live well, despite adverse events or enduring mental ill-health. Our service helps improve the mental health of the diverse communities in the Aire & Wharfe Valleys & Craven districts. AWCC’s always moved with the times, re-inventing itself to keep pace with need. Founded in 1983 we developed into Aire Valley Counselling & Therapy, (CIC) & Versa Organisation Ltd, a charitable company. In 2017 we merged these structures into our current CIO, inheriting the assets of both. Our open door approach provides support with a minimal wait (2-3 weeks) and offers a wide range of counselling approaches preventing a ‘one size fits all approach’. Clients receive 6 – 18 weeks of hourly counselling in our purpose-built counselling suit based in the centre of Keighley. We are unique in offering free & subsidised counselling based on affordability. This makes sure services are inclusive & available to vulnerable community members. Our whole approach is user-led and focuses on gains set by users. Two thirds of clients self-refer. Evaluation & feedback from users shape the service & provision is tailored to meet cultural needs where relevant. Our restructured service planning to take our support into more community-based locations & create co & user-led groups. These will actively draw on the skills & participation of users, offering mutual support, learning & inspiration to clients.
