Recipient Org: Charity Number 1073247
Recipient Org: Description My Life My Choice (MLMC) raises the self-esteem and quality of life for people with learning disabilities by providing volunteering, training, employment and social opportunities for its members. This disadvantaged group face multiple levels of deprivation and the charity works to help its members to combat isolation and to lead more fulfilling lives. The charity is the only independent, user-led (all trustees of the charity have a learning disability), self-advocacy organisation of its kind in Oxfordshire. The membership, spread throughout the county, has grown from 320 to over 594 since January 2009. Our vision is a world where people with learning disabilities are treated without prejudice, and are able to have choice and control over their own lives. To this end, we run a variety of projects including a peer-led travel training scheme, user-led training, a learning disability nightclub, Gig Buddies, a campaigns team and 12 self-advocacy groups. All of these projects are led by people with learning disabilities and members are paid at least the Oxford Living Wage (£10.02 per hour) for their work in the charity.
