Grant to Banbury Cross Explorer Scout Unit (360G-OCF-A501158)

Funding will be used to support the salary costs of  a sales supervisor; the group would like to expand their opening/trading  opportunities and have found that by opening on a Saturday this allows for engagement with a wider demographic from across the town.  The group estimate that by opening on a Saturday they will have on average an further 30 - 50 visitors who will have access to information about sustainability, resourcefulness and waste reduction (especially plastics)

Recipient Org: Description We aim to give young people aged 14-18 experiences and life skills through scouting. The Scout movement promotes responsibility, respect, inclusion, equality and by giving our Explorers different challenges/doing badgework/Duke of Edinburgh Award etc these qualities become second nature to them. Leaders are positive role models and deliver a balanced programme of events to give individuals opportunities to become well rounded adults, who in turn can become young leaders and positive role models for the Scouts Cubs and Beavers they meet and who give back to society and the local community. We have taken part in The Winter Challenge (18 mile hike), have attended several camps (using borrowed equipment), We parade on St Georges Day, Remembrance Sunday and helped with outreach teas at the Methodist church where we meet. Other activities include Climbing, fundraising (our main fundraiser is at Fairport Conventions Cropredy Festival, where we help park cars, litter pick and collect rubbish from the camping fields and main arena) bag packing, Archery, Airrifle shooting, Map reading and navigation, helping to maintain Horley Scout Campsite, Survival skills (firelighting shelters etc) and Homelessness awareness including a visit to the Salvation Army Food Bank.
