Recipient Org: Description Bristol Music Trust (BMT) aims to provide creative and inspirational musical experiences for the people of Bristol and the South West through performance, music-making, education and talent development. BMT runs Bristol's iconic Colston Hall which presents a diverse programme of music, attracting 300,000 people per year. BMT also manages Bristol Plays Music (BPM), the only official Department for Education music education hub in the UK based in a professional performance setting. BPM, accounting for just 23.67% of BMT’s total expenditure, is fully embedded within the community and delivers the National Plan for Music Education and other music activities throughout schools and communities in Bristol reaching over 30,000 children in 130 schools, special schools, youth groups and music centres per year. In 2017, BPM was awarded the Major Award at the Music Teacher Awards for Excellence - the ‘Oscars’ of the music education world. BPM has led a comprehensive review of music education provision and has identified a significant lack of opportunities available to Children in Care, particularly in Southmead and Filwood (Knowle West). Our Hope Creative music sessions address this through a year-long programme of music-making for young people in care in these two areas of Bristol.
