Recipient Org: Description To provide a weekly 'day out' for elderly isolated less mobile Clevedon residents. We rent the lounge of an Anchor Housing building every Tuesday, volunteer drivers collect our members and bring them to the centre. We have tea, biscuits and a chat, then a quiz, game, activity or visitor, followed by a two course lunch which is collected by a volunteer from Castlewood community meals. This is served at a dinning table. After lunch more time for a chat then more games puzzles, readings or poems, bingo, tea and cake and then volunteer drivers take them home. The day lasts from approx 10am - 2:30pm plus travel time. Run entirely by volunteers. In December 2016, the volunteer who had led the centre for 26 years retired. In 2016 we were also forced to change venue. We currently have 11 members, with space for 3 more. We are delighted to have successfully continued the club following the retirement of the leader but could benefit from a few extra volunteeers. Our main aims are to provide an opportunity for social interaction and an opportunity to meet new friends. For some of our members we are their only social outing of the week and the only meal they don't eat alone. We currently have 11 members, mostly in their late 80's/early 90's. Virtually all use a walking aid and have sight and or hearing impairment. Our members live independently but can continue membership if moving to a residential home.
