Recipient Org: Description | No More Taboo is a not-for-profit social enterprise working towards a period friendly world, for everyone. We sell sustainable sanitary products and invest 100% of the profits into our charitable projects that help tackle the taboos surrounding menstruation and sanitation. We aim to: break the silence surrounding menstruation; promote reusable sanitary products to reduce the environmental impact of disposable sanitary products; and empower women and girls by improving their menstrual hygiene management and access to sanitation. We are constantly advocating for change. We appreciate attitudinal change is a slow process, but we are committed to breaking down the stigma surrounding menstruation. To date: We have co-hosted several events including a national period poverty summit in Leeds; We are constantly campaigning and awareness raising via our social media channels, and have appeared on media channels such as Ujima radio and BBC points West; We are providing training for organisations, NGOs and schools, to help people understand period poverty and that there are long-term sustainable solutions that are easy to implement. Through our innovative Tackling Period Poverty programme we have reached some of the most vulnerable women in Bristol, to educate and support them to access sustainable sanitary products, and feel healthier and happier during their period. This programme has been a great success and we want to continue. We have developed a strong network and have a lot of opportunities at our fingertips – however in order to continue we need core funds so that we have a strong base to work from, and so that we can invest in staff to ensure that the programme is maintained / run sustainably, and so that we don’t lose the relationships we have spent so long working to develop. |
