Our mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of CYP and their families by providing access to stimulating, environmental arts activities and invigorating, freely chosen outdoor play. Our work is governed by the 5 ways to wellbeing approach, playwork principles, and experiential learning guidelines. We achieve our goals by: 1) Increasing the number of children playing outdoors to develop their strength, health, and confidence 2) Improving and enriching the lives of local communities by engaging them in socio-environmental activities and local festivals 3) Empowering young people leaving school by providing them with valuable skills and work opportunities APE’s vision is a world where children and young people are valued, supported, and learn to become confident, adventurous, caring, and creative through educational, outdoor play. Our theory of change is based on the 5 ways to wellbeing approach which champions intervention at both an individual and community level. Play is repeatedly proven to actively advance a child’s mental and physical health by stimulating cardiovascular activity, fine gross motor skills, improve critical faculties, and encourage peer supported learning. Crucially, play also acts as a social glue bringing parents together and therefore improving crippling isolation, and fostering a sense of belonging and pride in the community. |
