Recipient Org: Description | SWAN is a Local Commissioning Network for the South Ward (Weston-super-Mare). We have developed a programme of activities for 0-17 yr old and their families to increase services and activities available to children and young people during the school holidays, when the safety of school is unavailable. Based in this area of multiple deprivations, children and young people are at risk from their sheer presence in the area, due to the level and complexity of needs within local households. Our programme of inter-agency engagement opportunities are designed to expand young people’s horizons, educating them while having fun, building relationships across local organisations, offering choice of how to spend free time, reducing antisocial and criminal behaviour on the estate. SWAN’s Core Aims and vision for our future projects are: Engaged young people - Provide a really fun offer within the South Ward Thriving young people – Utalising assets and skills, supporting employment opportunities Empower Young People - giving opportunities to be part of the shaping of the community. Giving them a voice to promote and become part of The Community Spirt Create Connections – through the provision of inter-agency activities for young people and families, giving the opportunity to secure relationships, and discover community links with SWAN partners. SWAN believes that our local young people and families have many skills and assets that can be drawn upon, and with support can help to connect our community. Consultations with local people have shown what is “really” wanted / needed to support community cohesion. Many local young people feel isolated due to their personal circumstances and are often disconnected. SWAN’s Lunch Clubs, Day Camps and WOW trips offer these young people and their families the opportunity to reduce isolation, becoming involved in their community and improving their quality of life. |
