Recipient Org: Description Our activities and services are two fold: (i) our community work with Schools, Colleges, charitable organisations and community groups that is funded by or in partnership with the organisation itself. (ii) Our commercial work where we charge fees to organise cookery and masterclasses for individuals and companies. This work generates income and makes a profit that is reinvested to help subsidise work with the community. The organisation works with some of Bristol’s most disadvantaged and vulnerable communities such as; ethnic minorities, physically disabled people, people suffering from dementia, people with learning difficulties, etc. Our kitchen is well equipped and of professional standards – as well as our tutors who are fully qualified both for the learning competencies or dealing with different target groups and communities. As a policy, all Tutors are DBS checked. Square Food Foundation was established in 1998 and became a CIC in 2011. SFF was founded by Barney Haughton, a nationally acclaimed Bristol chef and cookery teacher who has catered for the Prince of Wales. In 20 years of cooking and teaching, Barny has won several accolades including Glenfiddich Food & Drink ‘Independent Spirit Award for his outstanding contribution towards widening the understanding and appreciation of food and drink in Britain, a Royal Society of Arts Award for pioneering and innovative projects that benefit local communities and the Bristol Culture ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ in 2013. Square Food Foundation, won ‘Best Community Cookery School’ award in 2012. We use our services and activities to improve our business and increase profitability and in turn reach more people who might not otherwise afford to attend, whilst building our people to take charge of current and future development. Our mission is to using food and cooking to transform the way people think and feel about themselves and their world – we are cooking for positive social change.
