Recipient Org: Description Bristol Old Vic Theatre School was opened in 1946 by Sir Laurence Olivier and is one of the most successful and well-respected conservatoire drama schools in the UK, our work is recognised nationally and internationally (in May 2016 we were officially recognised as world-leading by the Higher Education Funding Council England HEFCE see supporting information) as a benchmark of quality in professional drama training. Award winning Theatre School alumni include: Sir Daniel Day-Lewis (BAFTA, Golden Globe and Oscar Winner), Jeremy Irons (Golden Globe and Oscar Winner), Mark Strong (Olivier Winner), Miranda Richardson (BAFTA and Golden Globe Winner), Olivia Colman (BAFTA Winner), Sir Patrick Stewart (Olivier Winner), Tim Piggott-Smith (BAFTA Winner), Designer Peter Mackintosh (Olivier Winner) and Sound Designer John Leonard (Drama Desk Award Winner). We select on talent alone and last academic year 43% of our students were in receipt of full government maintenance grant (from families with a joint income of under £25,000pa).
