Recipient Org: Description Our aim is to provide value for money shopping to all, but especially for those who find difficulty accessing shops outside of the village, particularly older people. As well as providing necessary produce, the shop serves as a community hub and co-ordinates much of essential village life. We sell a wide range of produce and support local suppliers by selling local meat and veg, salad leaves, free range eggs, homemade cakes, as well as greetings cards made by local artists. In the growing season villagers donate their excess fruit and veg crop. We also sell newspapers and postage stamps, cash cheques and we’re a hub for parcel drop off and pick up. We advertise fundraising events, sell local theatre tickets and raffle tickets, give out tokens for the tennis court. We provide a collection basket for food donations for the local food bank. We’ve also taken in lost dogs and provided directions for village visitors. The shop acts as a village social hub - a place to catch up with village news and simply meet other villagers. But most importantly the shop helps elderly and less mobile people as well as those with no transport to be independent.
