| Recipient Org: Description | Wansdyke Play Association (WPA)’s mission is to inspire, challenge and empower children, young people, families and communities through play. WPA work in deprived areas of North East Somerset to address issues such as poverty, physical and mental health, social exclusion, truancy and anti-social behaviour. In 2016/17 we worked with 1056 children and 435 families. We support children and young people to develop social and life skills, increase confidence and self-esteem, improve behaviour and engage in their community. WPA have a strong reputation both locally and nationally. Our main services: Community Play Ranger sessions - free and accessible play opportunities for children and families, supported by WPA “play rangers”. This model was developed by WPA and is now well-recognised nationally (used by Play Scotland). We currently apply for funding from Parish & Town Councils and grant funders e.g. Quartet to fund these open access sessions during the school holidays in order to provide free and fun play opportunities within the heart of communities. |
