Recipient Org: Description The provision of transport to the"Elderly, Disabled, or Otherwise Disadvantaged", inhabitants of Weston-Super-Mare and district. This includes the many 'Groups', who we regularly pick up and transport to their Meetings and other outings. A good percentage of our "Members" are in wheelchairs and we are able to offer 'Door to Door' transport to them all. We also provide a "Dial-a-Ride" service, five days per week, for such things as routine 'shopping' trips to the various Supermarkets and other outlets, as well as Doctors, Dentists, Chiropodists, and other medical appointments. Being a 'seaside' resort, a high percentage of the population are aged 65 and over, creating a very high call on our services and resources, which are under constant pressure to expand. (See below.) Separately, - but as a 'Sister' organisation, we have set up a 'Volunteer Hospital Car Driver's Service' which 'runs'; with Drivers, (in their own 'private' cars,) ferrying our same 'Target Group' to "Hospital Appointments" at all the Major Hospitals in the 'region';- i.e., the B.R.I. Group -, Southmead, - Emersons Green, - Shepton Mallet, - Bridgewater M.R.I., and Musgrove Park in Taunton. This is largely 'Self-Funding', as the Drivers are allowed to charge the Patients, 45p. per mile.
