Recipient Org: Description | The Kingston St Mary Community Partnership has been established to implement the recommendations from the 2017 Community Plan for the civil parish of Kingston St Mary, Somerset. This Plan was drawn up by a committee of volunteers (the Community Plan Steering Group, CPSG) at the request of the Parish Council. Its recommendations are based on a survey of all households in the parish in June 2016, and feedback from public consultation meetings in 2016/17. The Plan makes recommendations to support village infrastructure, environmental and community projects to improve the wellbeing of residents, and to protect and preserve the character of the local area. The specific objectives identified following community meetings about the 2017 Community Plan include the following: > development of a Good Neighbours Scheme to support the vulnerable and elderly with practical assistance and support as required, delivered by volunteers and overseen by the Royal Voluntary Service > production of a Directory of Activities and Services which brings together sources of support (statutory and voluntary) for local residents and identifies opportunties to enhance engagement with the community and reduction of isolation through social activities > improve cycling and pedestrian safety through the village, and support the development of safe cycle routes between the village and Taunton via links with Taunton Area Cycling Campaign, and working with local developers to ensure that the needs of cyclists and pedestrians are respected. > maintenance of the footpath network in the village and surrounding countryside, by developing a volunteer team to support the footpaths officer > protection of countryside by regular litter-picking sessions along the lanes and public spaces, run by volunteers > improving broadband connectivity, through a detailed mapping exercise of broadband speeds across the parish, and exploring the workability of alternative solutions to improve internet access. This work is led by a group of local volunteers, and aims to support implementation of viable solutions through collective discussions with internet providers. > supporting a volunteer-led youth group for 11-17 year olds living in the parish. |
