Recipient Org: Description | Our aim both now, and into the future is to combat loneliness and isolation, helping to create and sustain a considered community, encompassing more members, both in Frome and increasingly in local villages, to reach more isolated, and vulnerable individuals, linking with other groups, as part of the Dementia Action Alliance. We are now receiving more referrals, particularly from Health Connectors, and attracting more volunteers as a result. Since 1st January 2019, we became fully independent, and are funding a service manager, and self employed part time staff, with associated running costs, and building a three to five year funding plan. Once a referral is received, our staff will meet with the potential 'member', and establish their needs, for our support. . Some of our members prefer 1:1 support in their homes, and some only attend our Monday or Tuesday groups. Some will enjoy both as they grow in confidence, and their sense of isolation, turns into an enhanced self esteem. Those who need it, are assisted to attend via Somerset transport minibuses, taxi's, or volunteer vehicles. Group sessions can include a variety of activities They can lead to lasting friendships, and a few of our members have become volunteers, and even, in a few cases, trustees. We are also currently running a funded Horticulture project with other groups, and we run day trips, Tea dances, Xmas meals, and other social activities which we hope to expand on with increased core funding. |
