Recipient Org: Description | Aim: to continue the work we started last year by advancing the education and development of children and young people from 8-16 years of age living in Dulverton and the surrounding area of south Exmoor. Activities to continue maintaining an open, warm welcoming place where children can meet on a regular basis with like-minded others. Receive support from paid staff and volunteers who will monitor and interact with the children/young people to increase their competences. Promote personal growth and understanding of social issues by using various activities. Confronting pre-set ideas; setting ambitious goals. Teach them new skills and build on existing skills; Look at transferable skills and how best they can utilise them. Be part of the wider community and encourage with volunteering activities. Prepare them for adulthood by giving them the confidence, determination and resilience to make a difference. Show empathy and understanding to enable them to become rounded individuals. We currently provide some of these services and activities but now wish to build further on them. Our experienced youth leader left in March this year to return to Bristol, he has been replaced by an administrator who supervisors and mentors the two youth workers through their Level 3 Youth Workers Certificate. We know that once they have completed their course they will be in a stronger position to further develop the children. The new administrator, who has also taken some of the workload off me, is experienced in developing staff and proven to be very competent in dealing with the youth workers, children and young people. We no longer allow electronic gadgets of any description during the sessions thereby allowing us to teach them more cognitive and interpersonal skills |
