Recipient Org: Description Petworth Community Garden was grown for the community, by the community. Our Aims include: Promoting Healthy Life Styles; We reach out to locals on low incomes, often isolated, disabled, at risk of or experiencing food poverty. We aim to support and increase people’s health and well-being by growing and sharing fresh organic produce together in our beautiful garden, offering activities and projects that benefit social, physical, mental, emotional/spiritual aspects of life: Celebrating and Supporting All Abilities ; we celebrate all abilities, supporting individual’s additional needs. We are open to all and have created wheelchair accessible gardens and activities to work with everyone’s needs and abilities: Representing the Community; We offer a friendly opportunities for social integration, welcoming children, young people, adults with learning difficulties or additional needs, wheelchair users, people with mental or physical health issues, families and the elderly, recognising the many benefits working together in a mixed group can bring, by dropping labels, reducing isolation and creating community cohesion: Care for the Environment, We follow permaculture principles and practices, designing sustainable low impact systems, growing organically, in balance with nature. We teach about wildlife, organic gardening, permaculture, low carbon living and care for our environment: Offering 'A Place of Play' the garden offers a nurturing learning environment for all age and abilities. The garden offers a fun safe space for children to play and explore: Learning and Training; offering supported volunteering and training opportunities to build confidence as a stepping stone to further opportunities and work placements. We run integrated wheelchair accessible community projects for all our community including 'Learn and Grow' organic gardening sessions; 'Plot to Plate' cookery sessions, creating cheap healthy meals from the harvest; Accessible 'Men's Shed' rural craft project; Social and Therapeutic Horticulture Sensory sessions; Children's activity sessions; School 'Eco clubs' and outreach projects.
