Recipient Org: Description We are small community based charity located in East Hollingdean – one of the most socially deprived areas in Brighton & Hove. We aim to prevent and alleviate poverty in both Hollingdean, as well as across the City of Brighton & Hove and surrounding areas, through both the provision of advice, education and support; the overcoming of social isolation, and the promotion of mutual aid. Towards achieving these aims and objectives: • We run a social space CASE Central. This provides somewhere for the people in Hollingdean to come to socialise and seek advice and support for their personal and financial problems. CASE Central also provides free second hand clothes, toys and books donated by the local community. Free food from Fare Share Scheme, and basic necessities, such as washing power, nappies and sanitary towels, for a small donation from the In Kind Direct Scheme. We also offer free phone and internet access for people dealing with benefit agencies, the tax office and utilities as well as for making job applications. CASE Central is also referral point for the City Mission Food-Bank. • We also provide expert welfare rights advice and support for all in and out of work benefits (such as Jobseekers Allowance, Employment Support Allowance, Working Tax Credits, Child Tax Credits, Pension Credits and Universal Credit). For us it is important for our welfare rights advisors not only to develop knowledge and expertise in the law, regulations and procedures governing the claiming of benefits, but also to provide moral and emotional support to navigate what is for many people a forbidding and bewildering benefit system. • We also seek to bring local families on low income together by organising free educational and recreational events and outings for families on low income.
