Recipient Org: Description Good News Brighton is a small charity based in Moulsecoomb, a housing estate on the outskirts of Brighton. We started leasing an unused building (called Hillview Centre) from the council in the centre of Moulsecoomb in June 2017. The centre is now called Hillview Good News Centre, and is the base of a number of projects run by Good News Brighton's team. The projects that currently run from this building are: * Good News Shed - local people participate in woodwork/handyman jobs of their own choosing or for the benefit of the community * Chomp - during school holidays, providing local families an opportunity for a free healthy meal, and the chance to do crafts and play games with their children, alongside other families * Ladies coffee group - once a week a small group of local ladies to connect in friendship, creating a "safe place" to share their lives with each other * Counselling - affordable counselling is offered to local people by a registered counsellor * Saturday Christian Gatherings to explore faith Other activities that Good News Brighton are involved in: * Befriending people in Brighton who suffer from loneliness and isolation * Creating and administering a mentoring programme for local young people and young adults. An important objective of Good News Brighton is to be connected locally beyond community services/organisations, working together as far as possible to share resources and skills, looking out for the well being of our local residents. It is important to Good News Brighton to "listen" to the needs of the local community, and respond by coming alongside, empowering, and connecting people into relevant support for the individual. All the volunteers or staff live locally, and therefore the well being of our community is of great importance to us.
