£30,000

Art and Biomedical Science: a biannual artist's residency and related exhibition and lecture series This is an application for funding to initiate a biannual artist's residency and related exhibition and lecture series, co-hosted by the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, University of Oxford and the University's Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics. Through their own research and observational study, the artist will create a body of work that illuminates a particular aspect of the relationship between art and biomedical science, focusing on physiology, human anatomy and genetics. The residency will culminate in a public exhibition of the project at a venue in Oxford whose suitability is to be determined by project outcomes. During the residency, the artist will arrange a related six part public lecture series, inviting five practitioners from diverse fields to speak on subjects relating to the project and their own areas of interest. The first lecture will be given by the artist. The artist will be accommodated in an Oxford college for the duration of their residency and offered access to the Ruskin School, Department, of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics and all other necessary facilities in Oxford. The artist will be supported by designated academic and technical staff at the Ruskin School and Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics. In addition to fine art and medical staff and students, target audiences for the exhibition and lecture series will include local and regional artists, healthcare professionals, GCSE and A level art and science pupils, and other local and regional groups with an interest in cross-disciplinary activity.
