Cambridge University Clinical Research Society: facilitating the free exchange of ideas and concepts of medical research within clinical medicine (360G-Wellcome-093352_Z_10_Z)

£5,645

The Cambridge University Clinical Research society aims to foster interest and excitement in medical research specifically, but not exclusively, within the medical student community. We intend to do this through informing students of advances in the diverse fields of medical research and providing an environment for interaction with leading researchers, in order to facilitate the free exchange of ideas and concepts. Not only do we hope to engage students in the latest current research, but we also hope to stimulate debate about issues raised by the application of the discussed research to society and future biomedical sciences. Encouraging discussion and debate regarding potential concerns and problems arising as a result of biomedical research is crucial, yet often overlooked within the student community. Specifically, we hope to target and raise awareness of social and ethical issues that may arise as a result of biomedical research. The society also aims to provide opportunities for student involvement in medical research. We propose to achieve these aims through organising: 1. debates with top researchers regarding the social and ethical impact of their work 2. a national poster competition 3. a student research competition 4. a register of available audits in Addenbrookes Hospital
