'"Reproductive tourism": Travelling for conception and the global ART market' to be held in Cambridge on 3-5 December 2010 (360G-Wellcome-093960_Z_10_Z)

£1,500

The proposed meeting will bring together fifteen experts from around the world to discuss the newly emerging and rapidly growing phenomenon of "reproductive tourism". This interdisciplinary workshop will foster a much-needed conversation across the disciplines in order to generate a holistic and informative analysis. The fifteen invited presenters represent outstanding scholarship from a range of disciplines, including history of medicine, law, bioethics, anthropology and sociology, and also include representatives from the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) and the World Health Organization (WHO). Many of the participants are already established as key figures in the field, whose work to date has defined the parameters of the study of cross-border reproductive i care (CBRC). . . The papers from the workshop will be developed and collated to form the first edited collection on "reproductive tourism". The volume will not only provide a discussion of the ethical and legal issues at stake, but will also chart the prevalence, growth and current circumstances of transnational reproduction in different parts of the world, and aim to set a research agenda for the future. The outcomes of this timely workshop will be of interest not only to academics working in this area but also to assisted reproduction regulators, practitioners and their professional organizations, and patient support groups.
