Bioethics, Privacy and Medical Genetics in Developing Country Contexts. (360G-Wellcome-099390_Z_12_Z)
This meeting aims to address some of the urgent and important bioethical issues raised by the transformation of human and medical genetics as an international and transnational field of research and private/public health provision. Focusing on the South American context (particularly Brazil, Colombia and Uruguay) the two day symposium event will combine a mixture of keynote presentations from international participants and breakout workshop sessions. This format will enable speakers and participants to collectively consider and address some of the pressing bioethical concerns raised by the use of genetic information in developing country contexts. Four key themes will be addressed, including " Biobanks and Privacy " Genetic Information and the Family " Informed Consent and Medical Genetics; new processual perspectives " International Collaborations in Genetic Research; challenges and opportunities The event will bring together a group of international speakers and participants in a unique cross disciplinary event, including those with expertise in Medical Genetics, Law, Anthropology, Bioethics and Population Genetics. The event will coincide with the Annual conference of the National Association of Brazilian Medical Genetics which annually draws up to 300 participants from across Brazil and South America.
