The Carnival of Lost Emotions. (360G-Wellcome-101249_Z_13_Z)
The Carnival of Lost Emotions' recaptures and brings to life emotional states lost in the mists of time. A Lost Emotions Machine is operated by the Ringmaster, who guides the audience through different historical periods as the machine recreates past emotions. Participants are invited to explore the meanings of lost feelings in their original contexts, discovering what it was like to be struck down with neurasthenia, subdued by acedia, or gripped with the fear of koro. The Carnival encourages audiences to consider how our emotions, which we tend to view as natural and deeply personal, are shaped by the culture and language of their time. In this way, participants are offered an opportunity to reflect upon the historical nature of current neuroscientific and emotional vocabularies.
