The main objective of this project is to sort, preserve and catalogue the administrative archive of the national birth cohort studies, held at the Centre for Longitudinal Studies (CLS), to international standards and make it available to researchers. It will employ a professional archivist for 18 months to undertake the following activities: -Removal, sorting and repackaging of archive material from the existing stores. -Sorting of archive material to reconstruct runs of minutes, planning papers and data records. -Appraisal of remaining archive material to remove duplicates and to agree retention. -Repackaging of the archive material into acid-free folders and boxes. -Cataloguing of teh archive usimg CALM, in line with international standards (ISAD(G) and ISAAR(CPF)). The catalogue will be added to the archive online cataglogue (http://archive.ioe.ac.uk/DServe). -Pilot Project to access (with CLS staff) the contents and research potential of the audio-visual and digital material held in the CLS archive, with a view to scoping a second phase project to transfer and catalogue them. -Outreach and dissemination work relating to the archive collection in collaboration with staff at CLS. The sorting, repackaging and catagoluing part of the project will take 18 months. Outreach will be ongoing throughout the project. The archivist will be based witin the Institute of Education Archive Team. The end result of the project will be the creation of a coherent and accessible CLS archive; it will be made available to researchers through the IOE archive service and will be preserved for future generations.
