Simlemba Community Initiative for Sustainable Rural Livelihoods (360G-blf-0030136924)
Malawi is one of the ten poorest countries in the world and the Kasungu district in Northern Malawi has twice the national average of poverty. The majority of people depend upon subsistence farming but the land is degraded with a high degree of deforestation and because of the short rainy season and frequent droughts nearly half of all households only grow enough food to last for three months of the year. Some men seek work on larger farms elsewhere but this increases their exposure to AIDS.
