The fund was set up in 2017/18 to support community projects which reduce knife crime and have a positive impact on young people at risk of carrying a knife and committing crime. The fund was open to voluntary and community sector groups and the Home Office made up to £800,000 available in 2017 to 2018.A second round of the fund was announced in the Serious Violence Strategy, launched by the Home Secretary on 9 April 2018.In 2018/19 were are increasing this fund to £1.56 million pound for 68 projects.
