The Stepping Stones Project 14 Sep 2004

The Stepping Stones Project addresses a gap in service provision for homeless people in Barnet. The project will operate on Sunday and Bank Holidays to complement a week-day service run by Homeless Action in Barnet at the same location. Homeless people will be provided with meals and supported to access services in areas such as health, personal hygiene and drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Volunteers will receive training to help broaden their experience and develop their skills.

Older people volunteering at primary schools 11 Jan 2005

The project will empower older people to take an active part in their communities by giving them the opportunity to take the lead in designing and delivering voluntary services to support the development of children in Hackney and Tower Hamlets. Older volunteers will work in primary schools to provide support for pupils, especially those for whom English is an additional language.

CSV will showcase the clips in order to recognise their efforts and promote volunteering to others, through radio, TV and at local community events. This will be done in conjunction with the 'Year of the Volunteer' campaign.

The Community Service Volunteers will use their award to carry out oral reminiscence sessions at 9 locations nationwide (Belfast, Glasgow, Manchester, Middlesbrough, London, Plymouth, Brighton, Ipswich and Birmingham). memories and experiences of veterans will be recorded by trained staff and will then be transcribed onto a CD for local distribution and also put on the BBC People's War website.

The New Edgeware branch of The Royal British Legion will use a grant to organise a series of activities designed to celebrate 60 years of peacetime since VE/VJ Day. The first component will entail a reunion of veterans and those that lived through the War under the title of 'Blitz Night', which will include food and period entertainment alongside a memorabilia display. A similar evening will also be carried out for the broader community.

This will involve branch members, a large number of veterans and various other members of the local community. The evening will consist of an evening meal with period music. This is to be complemented by a large-scale service of remembrance to be carried out in conjunction with other local groups and youth organisations.

VJ Day Commemorations 24 Jun 2005

The Royal British Legion (Chislehurst Branch) from Kent will use an award to fund travel expenses for its members to spend a day visiting war museums, for example the Imperial War Museum. Further funds have been awarded for the group to hold one party for WW2 veterans at which there will also be a reunion for members of the Land Army, Bevin Boys and evacuees from the region.

Raising Awareness of Bogus Callers 07 Sep 2005

This award will help raise older people's awareness of distraction burglaries/bogus callers. Volunteers will provide information and advice about prevention tactics and how older people could best respond to an unusual caller. Isolated older people will be particularly targeted for this service with advice sessions being given mainly to small groups of older people and through community groups._x000B_
