The 728 Squadron Fleet Air Arm in Powys has been awarded a grant towards the travel costs for a commemorative visit to Malta in September of this year. Funding has been provide for 5 Second World War veterans, 1 widow, 4 spouses.
Ystradgynlais ICC 13 Jul 2004
The project will extend the Healthy Living Centre in Ystradgynlais to create a new intergrated childcare centre. It will benefit 310 children and 100 adults. The centre will operate from several sites in the area. Services will include family support sessions, training, early years education, out of school hours childcare, open access play area and crÃ¨che facilities.
The group aims to support the inhabitants of the Greater Portadown area whilst working in partnership with others. The project is to publish a quarterly newsletter on the cultural history of Portadown.
This grant will allow the school to transform a small indoor dining hall into a multi-use activity facility with sports flooring and disabled toilets/changing area which will be suitable for indoor PE activities. The project will allow staff to deliver new PE activities including dance, short-tennis and gymnastics and offer pupils after school activities in uni-hoc and soccer and provide the only community recreational facility in a rural area.
The grant will allow the school to create a high quality multi-use games area for pupils. This will be suitable for use throughout the school year and will accomodate a variety of sports enabling all 339 pupils to participate, for the first time, in two hours of PE each week. The project will also benefit 3,000 people from other schools and the wider community.
Powys Remembers: 60 Years On 08 Dec 2004
The project has encouraged schools in the authority to make links with veterans, both military and civilian, in order to record the memories of those who were involved in WWII, particularly with regard to VE day.

The school will improve and increase the educational environment for the children by installing playground markings in what is currently a dull playground environment.
Second World War 3 day commemoration event 30 Dec 2004
This formally constituted group would use an award to hold a talk by a Second World War historian to pupils of Bronte Primary School, a reunion dinner for local residents who took part in or contributed to IIWW.
War time celebrations 30 Dec 2004
This formally constituted group would use an award to mark the anniversary of the Second World War. A variety of events has been organised including a 1940's cookery demonstration, reminiscence nights with the Home Guard and the B Special Historical Platoon and a 3 day static exhibition of IIWW memorabilia involving local primary and secondary school children. A Festival Day consisting of a children's 1940's period dress competition, face painting and a balloon release will take place in May 2005.
IIWW reminiscence 30 Dec 2004
This formally constituted group would use an award to mark the anniversary of the Second World War by organising an educational trip to the Scottish National War Memorial and holding 6 weeks of reminiscent classes about the war.
The group provides social and recreational activities for older people. The grant will be used to run craft classes, two outings, IT and cookery classes and produce a monthly newsheet.
Appleby Social Education Centre is part of the Armagh HSST and provides services for adults with learning disabilities to meet their individual and group needs. The grant will fund a pageant with life sized puppets at the Market Place in Armagh, performed by adults with learning disabilities.
Exhibition of local WW2 memorabilia 24 Mar 2005
This group will use their award to hold a series of events to commemorate the Second World War. An exhibition highlighting local involvement in the War paying particular attention to evacuees, rationing and troops that were stationed locally. There will be a parade by local bands through the town and a VE Day Party in the style of the 1940s.
Banbridge Library Centenary Celebrations 24 Mar 2005
Banbridge Library Centenary Commitee in County Down have been awarded a grant that will allow them to commemorate WW2 by hosting a number of literary competitions involving the local schools, produce two wall hangings for the library created by local school children via a series of craft classes, and a number of talks from local authors who will discuss WW2 issues, these talks will be aimed at both school children and adults.

Gransha Rural Community Development Association in County Down have been awarded a grant to enable them to hold three events to commemorate the 60th anniversary of WW2 celebrations. This will include a reminiscence night, a '40's style' tea dance and social, and an exhibition entitled 'Battles Beyond the Boyne'. These events will be open to people in the local community.
