Living with Dementia 29 Apr 2004
The Alzheimer's Society promotes the relief and treatment of those suffering with Alzheimer's and related disorders, and supports their carers and families. This three-year project will allow sufferers to access services and support at a local level and to get involved in the organisation's work. This will be done by employing two Development Officers who will work across the UK to provide specialist advice and support to regional branches and teams.
Living With Dementia 05 May 2004
The Living With Dementia Project is a specialist support service for people with dementia. The overall aim is to help people remain in their own homes, active and engaged with their family and community, maintaining relationships, social skills and self esteem._x000B__x000B_The project provides emotional and social support though one to one befriending, group activities and outings. The service is tailored to individual needs and can support people from the early stages through to advanced stages of the condition.
The project is to provide information, support and advice to people diagnosed with dementia, and their carers to improve their quality of life, and assist the carer in 'moving-on' after bereavement.

A project to produce a newsletter raising awareness of dementia for the benefit of people with dementia and their carers living in Walsall. The grant will pay for a colour laser printer, printer stand, CD rewriter and digital camera.
Disabled access 21 May 2004
This branch of Royal British Legion provides social facilities for ex-service men and their guests without their having to join the club. They seek funding for disabled access to the club. Contribution towards disabled access (Â£5000).
Northern Remembrance Concert 24 May 2004
The organisation, in general, safeguards the welfare, interests and memory of those who served in the armed forces. With the funding it will arrange for the Royal Marine band to visit and perform at the first Northern Remembrance Concert in Manchester that the British Legion will host. The event will enhance community spirit whilst at the same time create a platform for inter-generational relationship development. It will also develop comradeship and audience participation.
Befriending Service 02 Jun 2004
The branch of Alzheimer's Society in the Mourne and Kilkeel areas provides support and practical help to families, carers and people with Alzheimer's disease. The grant will fund a volunteer befriending scheme for people with dementia.
Older people volunteering at primary schools 11 Jan 2005
The project will empower older people to take an active part in their communities by giving them the opportunity to take the lead in designing and delivering voluntary services to support the development of children in Hackney and Tower Hamlets. Older volunteers will work in primary schools to provide support for pupils, especially those for whom English is an additional language.
The Selby branch of the Society provides information, guidance, practical and emotional support to people with dementia, carers and their families. They will use the award to set up two new information and education groups developing into a monthly support group. The money will be spent on venue hire; support materials and promotion; cost of facilitators; speaker costs and expenses; transport for carers; refreshments and running costs for first year.
The group provides information, guidance, practical and emotional support to people with dementia, their families and carers in order to improve quality of life. They will use the award to run a weekly information programme for carers and families of people with dementia. The course will develop longer term support groups which will meet monthly. The money will pay for room hire; speakers expenses; stationery and telephone costs; transport costs; cost of facilitators; support materials and refreshments.
The purpose of the group is to cater for the well-being of all ex services personnel and their families, to help in cases of illness and distress and to provide convalescence where applicable. The money is for coach and ferries; B&D; subsistence.

Media and communications workshops 17 Feb 2005
CSV Media is the arm of CSV which seeks to use media to empower and inform people to give different communities a voice. The project 'FIRST' will work with people who are disadvantaged in the labour market and have low levels of IT skills. It will run a series of workshops around the Ipswich area on the subject of interactive storytelling enabling people to share experiences and gain understanding.
Parade and Church Service VE VJ Day celebrations 24 Feb 2005
This branch of the Royal British Legion will use its award to organise a parade through the town centre accompanied by a marching band. This will be followed by a summer fair with an open-air Drumhead service.
VE Day show 25 Feb 2005
The Trimdon branch of the Royal British Legion have been given an award to allow them to carry out a 60th anniversary 1940's evening. The evening will consists of war time entertainment and decor. They will also use the night to carry out interviews with residents who experienced the war years. These interviews will be video recorded and used when the veterans carry out visits to schools.
D-Day Commemoration Service and Parade 25 Jun 2004
The Northenden branch of the Royal British Legion have been awarded a grant to enable them to hold a commemmoration service and parade in celebration of the anniversary of D-Day. Various old comrades groups and associations will be represented. The event will culminate in a concert by the local silver band.
Weekend D-Day celebration event 25 Jun 2004
The Gateshead branch of the Royal British Legion has been awarded a grant towards their weekend of celebrations in commemoration of the D-Day landings. This will involve a church service as well as entertainments and refreshments. The event is open to all residents in the Gateshead area.
40's Night Remembrance Concert 25 Jun 2004
The Standish branch of the Royal British Legion in Wigan, Lancashire have been awarded a grant to enable them to carry out a range of activities as part of their 40's Remembrance Concert. The Concert will have entertainment, refreshments, and the participants will be wearing fancy dress. The Concert will be for a wide range of veterans from around the local region.
