The Northenden branch of the Royal British Legion have been awarded a grant to enable them to hold a commemmoration service and parade in celebration of the anniversary of D-Day. Various old comrades groups and associations will be represented. The event will culminate in a concert by the local silver band.
Weekend D-Day celebration event 25 Jun 2004
The Gateshead branch of the Royal British Legion has been awarded a grant towards their weekend of celebrations in commemoration of the D-Day landings. This will involve a church service as well as entertainments and refreshments. The event is open to all residents in the Gateshead area.
Northern Remembrance Concert 24 May 2004
The organisation, in general, safeguards the welfare, interests and memory of those who served in the armed forces. With the funding it will arrange for the Royal Marine band to visit and perform at the first Northern Remembrance Concert in Manchester that the British Legion will host. The event will enhance community spirit whilst at the same time create a platform for inter-generational relationship development. It will also develop comradeship and audience participation.
Battlefields Visit Dunkirk 15 Jan 2009
This branch of the Royal British Legion will use a grant to plan a trip with local Sea Cadets to the site of the Royal Navy evacuation of thousands of troops from the beeches of Dunkirk. Professional guides will inform the members and cadets of the historical site and on their return the cadets will then inform other cadets and schools of their experience by showing a DVD recording of their visit.
Parade and Church Service VE VJ Day celebrations 24 Feb 2005
This branch of the Royal British Legion will use its award to organise a parade through the town centre accompanied by a marching band. This will be followed by a summer fair with an open-air Drumhead service.
War Graves Visit 11 Apr 2007
The group provides support to families and partners of ex-service people, throughout the city of Lisburn. The grant will enable the group to travel to London en route to The Somme.

The project is to improve the group's facilities so that people with hearing impairment can participate.The money is for the purchase of amplification equipment.
Visit to the British war graves in Belgium 20 Feb 2007
The award will contribute towards the cost of travel as part of a trip to the First World War graves in Belgium for members who have close relatives buried there.
Pilgrimage to Normandy 22 Feb 2007
This branch of the Royal British Legion will visit Normandy to see the site of the landing of the Durham Light Infantry. Both veterans and cadets will visit the site.
