LifeLines 20 Apr 2016

This is the expansion of a project supporting volunteers aged 50 plus to run activities for vulnerable older people to improve health and well-being. These have previously included art classes, creative writing, yoga and computer club. The group will expand across the city, recruiting more volunteers, supporting more than 800 new people and establishing a Men’s Network to encourage older men to socialise regularly. It will also extend its HealthLink scheme to help older people get to medical appointments.

Kilkeel RBL - Saving Our Community Venue 22 Oct 2015

The group is a community and voluntary based organisation providing a range of services and activities to the local community. They received a grant of £10,000 to make improvements to their venue so that it can be used for more classes and activities.

RBL Portstewart Branching Out 26 Apr 2018

The group, based in Portstewart, are using a grant of £6,500 to replace their hall’s heating system and improve its insulation, making it more usable for community events.

D-Day Commemoration Service and Parade 25 Jun 2004

The Northenden branch of the Royal British Legion have been awarded a grant to enable them to hold a commemmoration service and parade in celebration of the anniversary of D-Day. Various old comrades groups and associations will be represented. The event will culminate in a concert by the local silver band.

Weekend D-Day celebration event 25 Jun 2004

The Gateshead branch of the Royal British Legion has been awarded a grant towards their weekend of celebrations in commemoration of the D-Day landings. This will involve a church service as well as entertainments and refreshments. The event is open to all residents in the Gateshead area.

Northern Remembrance Concert 24 May 2004

The organisation, in general, safeguards the welfare, interests and memory of those who served in the armed forces. With the funding it will arrange for the Royal Marine band to visit and perform at the first Northern Remembrance Concert in Manchester that the British Legion will host. The event will enhance community spirit whilst at the same time create a platform for inter-generational relationship development. It will also develop comradeship and audience participation.

Craft materials, training, expenses, hire of halls 24 Aug 2004

The project is to set up craft/social clubs for older people. The money is for hire of meeting rooms, materials and travel costs for outings.

The project is to recruit volunteers over the age of 50yrs and place them in schools alongside children wh0 need help in developing their basic numeracy and literacy skills. Raising Awareness of Bogus Callers 07 Sep 2005

This award will help raise older people's awareness of distraction burglaries/bogus callers. Volunteers will provide information and advice about prevention tactics and how older people could best respond to an unusual caller. Isolated older people will be particularly targeted for this service with advice sessions being given mainly to small groups of older people and through community groups.

Battlefields Visit Dunkirk 15 Jan 2009

This branch of the Royal British Legion will use a grant to plan a trip with local Sea Cadets to the site of the Royal Navy evacuation of thousands of troops from the beeches of Dunkirk. Professional guides will inform the members and cadets of the historical site and on their return the cadets will then inform other cadets and schools of their experience by showing a DVD recording of their visit.

Parade and Church Service VE VJ Day celebrations 24 Feb 2005

This branch of the Royal British Legion will use its award to organise a parade through the town centre accompanied by a marching band. This will be followed by a summer fair with an open-air Drumhead service.

Puzzle Island: 'play your own way' 30 May 2007

Puzzle Island will be a mobile play experience adaptable to any outdoor space and will be flexible to meet the needs of the children and adults playing. A range technologies, such as GPS, solar panels, Meccano, crafts and photography, will be used to create an imaginative adventure game featuring challenges and problem-solving elements tailored to the interests of the children involved.

The Royal British Legion Gwent County Committee have been awarded a grant to hold a Drumhead Service of Thanksgiving to mark the 60th anniversary of the cessation of hostilities of World War Two. The event will be attended by many ex-services and veterans groups and will cover five county authorities in Wales.
