New Addington Peoples' Carnival 30 Mar 2010
A project in New Addington, Croydon to expand an existing community food-based event into a two day carnival with stalls, a procession and school involvement. The event will be used to make people more aware of events and groups in their community and to bring together people from different generations and communities.
The project is to provide support and advice to older carers living in the Borough of Croydon. This will include older people who care for people with learning difficulties, older people with learning difficulties and family carers. The project will identify people with a need for the service, identify how best to support older carers and work with Croydon Mencap's existing services to provide support to beneficiaries.
A project by this Croydon group to provide older Chinese people with cardiovascular and Tai Chi exercise for their increased healthy lifestyle. The Chinese speaking tutor will make visits to inform the older people of health issues and hand out leaflets to correct misconceptions.

The Cook & Eat Healthy Food project 29 Apr 2010
A project in Croydon to encourage young people in sheltered housing, families and homeless people to lead healthier lifestyles. They will run weekly healthy cooking sessions and a weekend breakfast and lunch club, providing nutritional meals, whilst engaging people to learn how to cook healthy food.
This project will run an informal learning programme for young people, who will receive the support of a mentor. The group will encourage learning and enable young people to fulfil their potential.

This is a project by a community organisation in Croydon. The group will use the funding to run a continuation and development of their annual community carnival. This will promote community cohesion in an area of high social deprivation and will build capacity to accommodate more people who want to be involved.

To train people in DIY skills to maintain community buildings and green spaces. The DIY SOS project will provide four five-week long courses to participants in Sussex to help them improve areas in their neighbourhood. In addition, participants can take part in basic home maintenance courses to learn how to carry out repairs in their own homes. The project will help 200 people, including unemployed and low-waged people, lone parents, people with physical or learning disabilities and ethnic minorities.

They will engage young adults to take part in media training to produce and edit a documentary to bridge the gap between generations. They will interview older people to capture their stories and experiences on film, to promote understanding and better relationships with them.
