Youth Healthy Lifestyle Trainers 16 Jun 2009
This new project, delivered by young people, will establish a healthy lifestyle programme for young people in East Sussex with the aim of reducing obesity and alcohol misuse and helping young people buy and cook healthy foods. The young people involved in the project will travel to schools and youth clubs to promote the project and recruit other young people to act as trainers.

Rode Heath Young Peoples Community Centre Limited run a young people’s Community Centre, utilised by a range of children and young people’s groups. The organisation have identified a need for modernising their kitchen to provide better facilities for the young people’s groups, who use the centre. The grant makes a contribution towards the kitchen refurbishment.

This community group based in Biddulph, Staffordshire, will use funding to establish a community centre for local young people. This will enable the young people to come together in a safe environment whilst reducing fears around crime and anti-social behaviour.

This group will use the funding to establish a multipurpose shop and coffee bar for young people that will provide a safe and secure place for young people to get together and become involved in volunteering and youth training opportunities. This will enable young people to become involved in a training and working environment that will encourage future employment.
This organisation works with young people on the streets of the Saffron Estate and in open spaces, providing advice and guidance on issues that affect young people's lives. The project will work with young people to improve long term economic activity by increasing the number of employment and training opportunities available to them by offering courses.

The King's Outreach wishes to implement a counselling service for young people to give advice and guidance in a number of areas, such as sexual health and relationships. The development of the project will be steered by local young people and it is intended that peer-to-peer and group counselling will take place. Volunteers will also be trained to reach a wider number of young people.

The four year project will deliver a programme of activities and events that will promote the inclusion of young people with learning disabilities in activities. The project will enable young people to become active citizens by, undertaking self advocacy and information sharing activities and by representing young people with disabilities on mainstream youth forums. This new project will increase representation of young people within Solace Women's Aid and develop specialist support for young people (aged 10-21) affected by domestic violence.
