Blackwood Connect Tayside 01 Jun 2016

Blackwood are committed to providing free at point of access Wi-Fi to all tenants as part of their care at home package. Over the next 3 years Blackwood will invest over £800,000 in the installation of Wi-Fi infrastructure. This significant investment is designed to support customers as more and more services move to digital by default. In the Tayside area they have already trialed their care and support system “CleverCogs” with a number of customers. This service will be rolled out to all customers supported by the Wi-Fi system. Blackwood recognise the need to support customers in the provision of this new technology and therefore will be seeking to increase the level of digital skills training and support offered on site. This project will see a digital skills trainer recruited for the Tayside area who will provide ongoing training and support to customers and staff.

Cafe Connections 01 Jun 2016

They would like to offer basic digital skills learning to their tenants aged 55+, with a key focus on people over 65. The aim of this project is to help more people to get online and help reduce isolation and poverty. Tutor supportwill be secured from the the digital skills academy to help tenants develop the skills and confidence to use technology and the internet. The plan is to offer a mixture of informal group sessions for up to 8 people delivered in a café style atmosphere, with an option of 1 - 1 support as a follow up if needed. 10 sheltered housing developments have been identified across Edinburgh - each development will be offered a weekly, 3 hour learning session for a period of 10 weeks. The tutor will use tailored themes (hooks) based on the interest residents have expressed. The experienced tutors will then build in specific skills that will benefit our customers within the lessons such as security and staying safe online.

FRAE Fife Ethnic Minority Digital Inclusion Project 01 Jun 2016

This project seeks to put digital skills training at the heart of their services. Volunteer Community Champions will work with the target community groups supported by a sessional worker, and the FRAE Fife Coordinator. The target is to provide 5 digital skills training 10 week programmes for 30 individuals per programme, comprising six participants from each of the 5 target community groups. Each participant will be assessed at the start on their level of knowledge or competence, if any, in using IT, and progress will be monitored. Each participant will receive one to one tuition based on their level of need. Each participant will be registered with Digital Fife, and have supported access to a wide range of tuition module.

Tomorrow's Tutors 01 Jun 2016

The Tomorrow’s Tutors project will be delivered by Lairg Learning Centre and will seek to embed digital across their varied class timetable by training tutors in all subject areas in how digital can enhance their learning offer – be that gardening, patchwork, cake baking, or basic literacy. Improving tutor skills will then allow them to support learners in digital at their point of passion. The aim is to develop tutor understanding of digital inclusion, and to look at key basic digital skills and how to embed them. They will offer a series of four workshops for tutors, enthusing them about how digital can enhance their teaching, encouraging each tutor to explore the wide range of online opportunities and create a basic resource for learners to enhance their engagement with their learning. They will also support tutors in enhancing their own digital skills and create peer sharing opportunities.

Assisting older people in Strathaven and Stonehouse to improve and enhance their digital skills 01 Jun 2016

This project seeks to develop a range of digital classes for older people in the rural communities of Strathaven and Stonehouse. Following the successful introduction of a befriending and handy person service two years ago, and following a brief pilot in 2016, they have identified a need for the delivery of a range basic digital skills classes to include, smartphones, tablets, basic computing skills, laptop use. Three digital classes in the community will be delivered each week - 4 x 10 week sessions in a year. Staff and volunteers, as part of their initial induction and ongoing training, will be supported in the use of digital technology and given the knowledge on how to access services such as health, social care, pensions which they can pass on to all clients, their families and carers. Volunteers will be developed as digital champions locally; they will continue to assist older people and, with the support of the organisation and collaboration with key stakeholders, further enhance digital education and access for the community.

Aphasia iPad Partners 01 Jun 2016

This is a collaborative project between the Dundee AAC Research Group (DARG), Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland (CHSS) and NHS Tayside speech and language therapy (SLT). DARG runs the “Tap and Talk” aphasia iPad group (TaT). Through working with TaT, they have identified the need to train aphasia communication partners (ACP) in the use of iPads especially when they support people with severe aphasia (PWSA). Over two one-day workshops they will up-skill aphasia communication partners in iPad use. Two technology educators will teach key iPad skills which will be interspersed with training in practical application for communication support delivered by two speech and language therapists. Communication partners (such as spouses, family members, friends, staff from care facilities or volunteers) will learn how to use the iPad as a shared communication space in which partners and PWSA can co-construct rewarding conversations. A quality film will be produced through the training with the final product being uploaded to youtube. The project therefore has two key aims. Firstly, to achieve better conversations and interactions between people with aphasia and their partners through the multi-modal communication that an iPad offers. Secondly, over a longer period of time, for individuals with aphasia to increase their iPad skills through example, instruction and supported practice from their peer partner.

IT Catch-UP!! 01 Jun 2016

This project will enhance computer skills for a range of participants on their older adults programmes, and for those who attend support provision for the unemployed. Specific hooks (searching recipies, crafts etc) will be found for older people to help open up the possibilities of being online. A partnership is in place with the local CAB office for those who are unemployed or on ESA and who don't traditionally engage in training or with agencies. By helping these individuals work through their benefit claims or claimant commitments the project will open the door to greater exploration online and support this group to improve their digital skills. This project will see staff time being invested to embed IT ideas into courses already running for older adults, and for those needing to access IT. An additional staff member, who will report to the Activities Co-ordinator, who will report into the will be recruited to work a couple of days a week. All project delivery will be in Thurso.

Pollokshaws Digital Skills 01 Jun 2016

This project will provide 12 x 6 week basic digital skills courses over a year, aimed at 2 groups of participants. 1) 6 courses for people who are unemployed and who need digital skills to fulfil their job searching needs or to improve their skills for the job market and 2) 6 courses for older people in the community who have different needs, such as contacting family and friends or internet shopping. The project aims to see digital skills underpinning all of PAN's operations, such as getting service users to write blogs and manage a facebook page for their community garden project and help the needlecraft group download patterns and researching techniques etc. The project will be run from PAN's community hub in Pollokshaws, Glasgow and will be managed by the Network Co-ordinator.

Welcoming Digital Skills 01 Jun 2016

‘Welcoming Digital Skills’ will introduce two new activities to the Welcoming’s programme of support for migrants and refugees in Edinburgh: a weekly digital skills drop-in surgery, open to all, as part of their ‘Skills for Living and Working’ programme and a 16-week digital skills course for Arabic-speaking refugees, to run x3 per year, with separate groups for men and women. The project will be open to all migrants and refugees across the City of Edinburgh. Introducing the ‘Welcoming Digital Skills’ project would help the organisation embed digital learning into their regular programme and build their capacity to support people with this important aspect of everyday life. Opening up this new area of work will also enable them to draw in new volunteers from their waiting list and offer new volunteering opportunities to service users. The project will identify and train champions within specific migrant and refugee communities who can go on to support other community members as digital mentors.

Let's Get Digital 01 Jun 2016

Participants will be blind or partially sighted older people residing in any of their 13 target LAAs. Basic Digital Skills training will be delivered in small groups or 1-2-1 covering a number of topics. Training will be delivered locally through Peer Support Groups, specific to the needs of the person and will use either their own technology or we will lend a tablet for participants to practice on and help them to decide what to buy. As part of this training, the team will demonstrate alternative technology to broaden their knowledge and options in using their new digital skills. Let's Get Digital will underpin all of their services for older people; the training will roll out across all projects to ensure an additional layer of skills development opportunities for service users and support for staff, along with volunteer skills development.
