Container Scheme for Young People. 31 Mar 2018

Proof of concept youth homelessness-move on in new build containers. Part of mixed 15-unit scheme (5 for young homeless alongside 10 University students). Building on learning from Amsterdam's Startblok scheme, the project brings together 1625IP, United Communities and Bristol University. This is an exciting new self-management model with the students and formerly homeless young people supported to self-manage the scheme. The project is desperately needed as Bristol has no-affordable housing for young people and this will enable working young people to stay near employment. Low level support will be provided by 1625 to enable young people to make their first affordable step away from supported housing into independence whilst progressing with employment until they can afford Bristol prices. Young people will still be part of 1625's engagement activities, events and celebrations. Social activities will bring formerly homeless young people together with university students, including free access to university facilities.
