Challenging Racism Together 2 30 Jan 2019
We would like to expand our current project Challenging Racism Together to reach its maximum potential, influence and long-term sustainability. We will continue the work to further build resilience through critical thinking, confidence building and education and increase sense of belonging and civic participation at the local level. The project will continue to build capacity and capability in groups to counter extremist narratives within their communities and the society as whole. 3 new schools and 2 youth clubs will be involved in the project. We will use a more in-depth approach to tackling racism and extremism than the ‘multi-cultural’ approach, in order to challenge deep-seated racist beliefs. Through series of activities, young people will gain knowledge of the very foundation of most racism, as a false social construct. The overall aim of this project is building resilience and resistance against racism, discrimination and extremist ideology. The project is a partnership approach to tackle discrimination, intolerance prejudice, and stereotypes in educational settings via interactive activities for school communities and youth clubs to build more positive environment where all children and young people feel equal, empowered and can actively engage in community life. The activities will focus on increasing levels of trust and cooperation amongst individuals within a community, building the ability to critically evaluate and respond to arguments that promote hatred, prejudice and extremist ideas, and working with those who are prepared to stand up for shared values within a community to increase their reach and influence The project will be based on informal and non-formal education methodology that will allow us to engage with the participants more effectively and in more attractive way. New methods will be introduced alongside previously used and approved methods. Project legacy is booklet and video that can be used after the life of the project.
