Recipient Org: Description Skillway is based in Godalming, with workshops located in two former cemetery chapels. It is one project/arm of the Warehouse Christian Trust, a Godalming based charity established in 1979. Skillway therefore operates under the governing document of the Warehouse Christian Trust – a Declaration of Trust dated 17th February 1979, although the project does have its own policies and code of conduct. _x000D_ The project began in 1997 and aims to raise the self-esteem and motivation of teenagers through apprentice-style teaching of manual skills, including woodwork, furniture-making, metalwork and engineering/motor mechanics, by skilled craftsmen. _x000D_ Students, aged between 14 and 17, are referred to Skillway according to their needs by Secondary Schools. They enjoy a workshop environment so unlike school that the experience increases their sense of responsibility and provides preparation for further training in essential industries. Students attend for one day a week during school hours. Young people are mentored, supported and encouraged and after they leave Skillway the skills they have developed can lead to further training and employment in construction, engineering, mechanical or craft based trades.
