Recipient Org: Description | Mid Surrey Mediation (MSM) is a free and independent community mediation service, which exists to help resolve neighbourhood disputes in Epsom & Ewell and Mole Valley. When a situation has been referred (by an individual or by a local organisation such as the Police, a housing association, Citizens Advice or a local council), the Coordinator assigns two fully trained volunteer mediators to visit each party involved separately. Provided all parties agree, a joint mediation meeting is then arranged with the mediators and all the disputants at a neutral venue. Mediators do not take sides or make judgments. Their role is to develop effective communications and build consensus between the parties. Mid Surrey Mediation was established in 1994 and has been funded almost solely by grants and donations and run by volunteers ever since. The charity currently employs one part time worker (the Coordinator) and is managed by a committee of 6 trustees. |
