Recipient Org: Description Our mission is to help people facing disadvantage, social exclusion and hardship. To enable people to gain practical and personal skills to improve their economic and social situation and to convince them that they have a valuable contribution to make to society. We provide learning, training, volunteering opportunities, mentoring and counselling. • STEPS to 16 alternative education programme - providing vulnerable and challenging young people who have struggled to fit in and progress in mainstream school with a different approach to education so that they are better equipped for further education, employment and adult life.. • STEPS youth counselling service - providing a free and independent for young people aged 16 to 25 so that they have someone to turn to when they are troubled. • Mentoring young people and adults who face problems and challenges to help them gain the confidence to make positive changes. We have a small team of paid staff, training and harnessing the time, skills and goodwill of a large team o volunteer mentors. • Adult learning courses and projects tailored to particular communities and groups, encouraging and enabling people who didn't get on in school or have been out of education for a long time, to take up learning again. • Outdoors learning activities on the Swingbridge Community Boats These floating classroom/work bases together form an accredited training centre for people of all ages to learn new skills and take part in environmental volunteering. We encourage vulnerable people to get involved in volunteering and also provide work placements for offenders serving community sentences.
