Recipient Org: Description B@titude is a registered charity, whose stated objects are the relief of financial hardship and the development of capacity and skills among socially and disadvantaged communities. Initiated in 2004 and opened in January 2005, B@titude shop in Kingston Road, North Leatherhead has become a positive space for the local community, providing not only affordable childrens' clothes, but also operating as a resource through which other services and donated items can be distributed. The shop also provides a comfortable environment for drinks and snacks, a small play area, an opportunity for friendship, and acts as an active resource to help to develop the local community, helping to release and encourage people's dreams and ideas. It is described as "a little hub of life…if you push through the baby clothes hanging in the front window you'll discover a whole world of treasure that's not for sale; the gems of friendship, courage, kindness and generosity that have always been free but often so hard to find". The shop is positioned opposite the North Leatherhead Recreation Park and is open from 9am to 4.30pm between Monday and Friday, and from 9.30am to 1.00pm on Saturdays. It is run by a team of 3 part-time staff, with the support of volunteers. In 2013, a cabin was also installed behind the shop, from which a counselling service has been provided. The need for this was identified from the charity's relational work with those who come through the door of B@titude shop. The charity has also provided families with the opportunity to stay in a caravan in Pagham, and to attend summer trips to the zoo or seaside, thus enabling them to enjoy time away from their normal living situations. A Management Committee consisting of 4 members oversees the charity's operation.
