Recipient Org: Description Age Concern Merstham, Redhill and Reigate is a registered charity (originally named Voluntary Association for the Elderly, running since 1957), which aims to promote the wellbeing of older people and to help make later life a fulfilling and enjoyable experience. Age Concern seeks to help older people to remain living independently in their own homes for as long as they wish and are able to, and provide appropriate support in order to overcome isolation and loneliness. _x000D_ _x000D_ The charity runs a day centre three days per week in Weldon Way, Merstham which provides a hot meal, social interaction and various activities, as well as IT classes, hair dressing, hearing aid maintenance, access to a list of reliable tradespeople and information and advice (including legal advice in partnership with a local solicitor). A Befriending Service is also offered, along with transport, social outings and shopping trips. The annual membership fee is £15 per year, which covers access to the centre and a number of services, although some, such as the meal, are provided at an extra cost. The charity currently employs 6 part time members of staff and is supported by over approx 50 volunteers and has a membership of approximately 200 elderly clients.
