Recipient Org: Description Signals is Essex’s leading digital learning organisation. It is recognised as a specialist in digital and film education and productions have received numerous awards and international festival screenings. Signals works with all communities but predominantly with children, young people and disadvantaged groups to improve skills, life chances and provides a means of expression. Signals works through the provision of courses, training and projects; supporting groups to make digital productions through which they develop skills and insights and communicate with the wider world. Films created are often issue-based and seek to make a difference to lives though altering opinions, behaviour or providing information. The work created can have an impact for many years after the project ends. Films created continue to be shown for years in museums, schools and by youth workers. Education is central to what we do; the aim of Signals is to promote participation in and understanding of digital media such as film, websites and games. It also aims to help young people and the disadvantaged enjoy and achieve through creative activities, allowing them to develop skills, advance in life and contribute positively to society. The charity’s objects are: • To advance education, promote understanding, appreciation of, and participation in digital art, film and media for the benefit of the public. • To maintain a media arts centre for the benefit of the public. • Help young people and the disadvantaged enjoy and achieve through creative activities, allowing them to develop skills, advance in life and contribute positively to society. • Encourage the development of the art of digital media and film.
